Overview:

Research on mmWave mesh networking for Ultra Dense Network (UDN) in 5G communication systems is still an open problem. We study the networking mechanisms, algorithms and protocols for UDN based on mmWave communications. The target of our research is to design a set of mmWave mesh networking solutions for UDN. First of all, according to the characteristics of mmWave communications and UDN, we design a heterogeneous network architecture. This architecture has the following three features: hybrid mesh networking to integrate access and backhaul networks, low-frequency cellular auxiliary plane, and control plane/user plane splitting. Based on the architecture, we study networking solution for backhaul networks and access networks, respectively. For backhaul networks, we study the joint dynamic/static beam switching scheme, the fast link failure detection scheme, and the joint centralized optimization and distributed scheduling algorithm. For access networks, we study the fast cell discovery scheme, beam training and tracking scheme, moility management scheme, and the virtue mesh algorithm and protocols.
