Efficient random access protocol study for NB-IoT
Published:2018-05-28 Hit:617

NB-IoT is proposed by 3GPP based on LTE, to fulfill the demand from IoT scenarios. NB-IoT has multiple advantages, including high capacity, low communication overhead, enhanced coverage, long life span and low price. NB-IoT networks are built in many countries to serve many applications, like shared bikes. However, extremely large number of IoT devices may result in congestion in the NB-IoT random access channel, which further prevents communication. Traditional methods to solve congestion is designing various backoff mechanisms to let devices access later. Nevertheless, the efficiency of random access is not enhanced to solve congestion fundamentally. A new TA-value matching based random-access protocol is proposed in this project to enhance the throughput of the random-access channel of NB-IoT, and improve the success probability of devices.
