A fast and accurate localization scheme for mmWave communication systems

Overview:

mmWave communication has been accepted as a key building block of 5G communication systems and the next generation WiFi due to the large bandwidth in mmWave bands. mmWave signals suffer severe path loss, so it is necessary to use multi-antenna array based beamforming technology to aggregate signal energy towards the desired direction. Highly directional mmWave communication leads to synergies between localization and communication. However, research on localization schemes for mmWave communication, particularly, fast and accurate localization, is still an open problem. We are pursuing fast and accurate localization solution for mmWave communication systems through novel antenna design and algorithm design. Our solution is especially promising for scenarios such as autonomous vehicles, which have very strict requirement on localization speed and accuracy.
